Product Description

The BJ 1120-340004-00 potentiometer is the throttle control sensor for Big Joe PDS-20 and PDS-25 walkie pallet stackers. It is located in the handle/ control head and converts the rotation of the throttle grip into an electrical signal for drive speed and direction.

This precision 5,000 ohm (5kΩ) 3-wire “wigwag” potentiometer provides smooth, proportional speed control. A failing unit can cause erratic speed, dead spots, or only operate in high/low modes.

Built to OEM specs, it includes the correct plug-and-play connector and matches the original mechanical interface for easy installation. Replacing it restores full speed range and fine control, allowing precise acceleration and deceleration.

Warranty Information

1-year warranty for aftermarket electrical parts.

It covers any internal failures or manufacturing defects that prevent the pot from functioning as intended. If your new potentiometer has an issue, such as an “open” spot or incorrect resistance output, within the warranty period, please contact us for a replacement.

Our Return & Refund Policy

You can return this potentiometer within 30 days of purchase as long as they have not been installed or used. If you do need to return it, ensure it’s in new condition with all original packaging. Non-defective returns due to, for example, misdiagnosis or no longer needed parts may incur a 20% restocking fee. Initiate a return by contacting us or visiting our refund policy page – we’ll provide instructions for a smooth process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What function does this potentiometer serve on a Big Joe PDS walkie stacker?

A: The potentiometer is the speed control sensor in the handle of the Big Joe PDS 20/25 walkie stacker. When an operator twists the throttle on the handle, the potentiometer changes its resistance, sending a corresponding signal to the electronic controller. This signal tells the drive motor how fast to go – essentially, the potentiometer translates the operator’s input into the travel speed. A properly functioning potentiometer allows smooth acceleration, deceleration, and precise speed modulation of the stacker.

Q: What symptoms indicate the potentiometer needs replacement?

A: Signs include erratic speed, dead spots, loss of drive in one or both directions, or only slow fixed speed. You may also see throttle error codes. If the truck moves only after twisting past a certain point or surges unexpectedly, the potentiometer is likely worn and should be replaced to restore smooth, proportional control.

Q: Is this potentiometer used in other Big Joe models?

A: This part fits PDS-20, PDS-25, and some PDS-30 models. Other Big Joe stackers use different throttle designs and resistances. Always match the part number in your manual before ordering. Using the wrong potentiometer can cause incorrect speed control or make the truck inoperable.

Q: Do I need to calibrate after installation?

A: The controller usually auto-zeros the throttle input at startup. Align the potentiometer so it’s centered when the handle is in neutral. If the truck creeps, loosen the mounting, rotate slightly, and retighten. No special programming is required, but testing in an open space is important.

Q: What is the wiring setup?

A: It’s a wigwag-style dual-output pot with +5 V, ground, and forward/reverse signal wires. Twisting forward changes one output, and twisting back changes the other. The connector is keyed for proper plug-in, so there’s no risk of incorrect wiring during installation.

Q: What does “wigwag” mean?

A: A wigwag potentiometer has neutral in the middle and outputs separate forward and reverse signals. Turning forward increases one signal, while reverse increases the other. This design gives proportional speed control in both directions from a single unit, matching what the Big Joe controller expects.

Q: Handle tap fixes non-response—pot or something else?

A: Tapping the handle to restore drive often means the pot has worn spots. It can also be a loose connector or faulty safety microswitch. Check connections first. If the fault happens at certain grip positions, replacing the potentiometer is the best fix.

Q: Is it difficult to replace?

A: Replacement is simple. Disconnect the battery, open the handle, unplug the old pot, and remove it. Install the new one in the same orientation, plug it in, and test before closing the housing. Most people can complete the job in under 30 minutes.

Q: Is this an OEM or aftermarket part?

A: This is an aftermarket replacement built to match Big Joe specs for part 1120-340004-00. It matches the original in resistance, fit, and connector design. It delivers the same performance as the OEM part but often at a better price.

Q: Can a bad potentiometer cause error codes?

A: Yes. A failing pot can trigger throttle fault codes if the signal is missing, unstable, or incorrect. On trucks with Curtis controllers, these may appear as blink codes or display errors. Replacing the pot often clears the fault once the truck is restarted.
