Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if my Crown PTH50 is a newer model that this kit fits?
A: Check the serial number. Crown PTH50 pallet jacks with serial 7-512501 or higher use this seal kit. Older models (e.g., 7-430000) need a different kit. You can also identify newer units by their updated pump design. If unsure, provide your serial number, and we’ll confirm the correct kit for your jack.
Q: Does this kit include instructions or a diagram for the rebuild?
A: The kit usually does not include printed instructions, but we can provide an exploded parts diagram of the PTH50 hydraulic unit. The diagram shows each seal’s location. Rebuilding involves removing the pump, replacing the O-rings and seals, and reassembling it.
Q: What type of hydraulic oil should I use after installing the seals?
A: Use ISO VG 32 hydraulic jack oil, the grade Crown recommends. Do not use motor oil or brake fluid. The unit holds about 0.3–0.5 liters (roughly a pint).
Q: Are the seals in this kit identical to the original Crown seals?
A: Yes, they match OEM dimensions and performance, though colors may differ. They are made of high-quality materials for hardness and chemical resistance, similar to Crown’s seals.
Q: Can I reuse any of my old seals, or do I have to replace all of them?
A: Replace all seals and O-rings during the rebuild. Mixing old and new parts creates uneven performance. Since the kit is complete, use every piece provided. Installing all new seals ensures a consistent fit and reliable operation.
Q: What other parts might I consider replacing along with the seals?
A: Inspect the piston rod and pump piston—pitted or rusted surfaces will quickly damage new seals. Check the thrust bearing at the handle pivot and the release valve cartridge for wear or corrosion. Replace any excessively worn metal parts while rebuilding. Always add fresh hydraulic oil.
